Rainy Week 6 By Devin Gavigan The poor weather made an
appearance once again on the RBVL week 6 matches on July 3rd.
As the parking lot and the Boardwalk railing filled with cars and bicycles,
raindrops began to fall. Players had to tough it out through the rain, muddy
sand, wind, and slippery volleyball. The weather, however, did not compromise
the amount of people attending, with the usual crowd from the past weeks still
hitting the sand. Many children ran around in the rain or sat under umbrellas as
their parents set up nets amidst the rainfall.
Matches were on Tuesday this week due to the Fourth of
July holiday, giving the people a change in routine. Walking through the many
rows of games going on, it was visible that the teams were making the best out
of the conditions. Serves were pushed out of bounds by the wind, balls slipped
through setting hands, muddy sand stuck on legs and diving arms, and volleyballs
skid off prepared arms for a pass. As the games went on, the players learned to
adjust to the new setting and use it to their advantage. FAMs Breakaways in the
Ocean Breeze Division handled the weather like champions, getting kills and
making saves like it was a dry and sunny week. Their high competitiveness this
week took them to the top at number one. It was all about communication and
learning how to adjust to the climate week 6, and teams like FAMs Breakaways and
Kobeyaki Got Kills portrayed great athleticism and vigor. After the games came
to an end, some volleyball players headed to ‘Wine with Sue’ at the Belle Harbor
Yacht Club for drinks and relaxation after the tough matches. If you want your team or game mentioned in the weekly articles, email them to dgavigan17@gmail.com. It can be a variety of things from one interesting play to a summary of a match. Hopefully the RBVL will have better luck with weather next week as the competition stiffens in week 7.
