Week 9 By Devin Gavigan
RBVL couldn’t get away from the
rain this past Wednesday afternoon on July 25th.
The week 9 games were rough to watch and play in with the poor weather that has
carried on and off throughout the week. Concessions were closed down and empty
of the DFDs, and the usual biking traffic was practically absent on the
Boardwalk.
The American Flag flew high at
the Riis Park Beach Bazaar from the windy rain as the volleyball players and
friends made their way onto the sand. The people piled in to play and watch
regardless of the weather conditions; the same large crowd did not let rain keep
them from their fun. They did what it took to be prepared to play their best
games. People came wearing hoodies and sweatpants, hats and swimsuits, and
carried along their beach umbrellas and chairs to protect them. The games were
intense with players fighting to keep their control and team winning. Wave
Division’s top two teams- Kiss My Ace and Sand Spikers- competed and had an
interesting game on court 22. Taylor Tsatsis on Kiss My Ace and the rest of the
team played well in the rain, continuing their communication and strong ball
control. They dove for the hits and serves, not letting the messy sand stop
them. Kiss My Ace fought hard and won 4-1. As the sets and evening continued,
the rain grew stronger, making the ball and hands very slippery. The players all
appeared to hold their own and make the best of the situation.
The playoffs are less than three
weeks away and the competition is getting more and more impressive. In the Ocean
Breeze division, The Mighty Crom players would like to show their gratitude to
their sponsors. “…[We] would like to thank Chris and Sarah Romulo of Crom
Physical Culture for sponsoring the team this year,” said player Allison Bagley.
As shown on the rbvl.com website, the Bungalow after party has been moved to
August 1st.
