RBVL WEEK 8

By Devin Gavigan

Everyone was very upbeat at the eighth week of Rockaway Beach Volleyball; players were laughing and having a great time from beginning to end. Each week, more and more people come out to watch the matches, bringing chairs and coolers along with them. The concessions were open as usual, adding to the audience overlooking the vas number of volleyball games on the sand.

As the nets were being set up and the teams were waiting for their competitors, players warmed up and scrimmaged themselves in anticipation. Teams were having a lot of fun, enjoying the sunny weather and spending their Wednesday with their relaxing and playing with family and friends. Over on court 3, it’s All Good and Rincon Gringos appeared to be having an especially great game. With both teams tied for fifth place, the game was close and full of entertainment. There were a lot of close net plays, with players on both sides fighting to get the point. It’s All Good’s players were particularly good with saves, diving left and right to keep the ball in play. While they were playing, friends and family on the sidelines set up a table with sandwiches and drinks to add to the gathering. Sun Ray Division’s ServPro NW Brooklyn and Quatela Architects Suns of Beaches also played very well. Quatela Architects Suns of Beaches adjusted to hits with ease and ServPro NW Brooklyn’s setter had good ball control and net domination.

There were engaging matches going on at the Bazaar from corner to corner. The competition and the fun the players and teams were having only increased as they near the playoffs on August 11th. Children too young to play volleyball on the courts played on the sides to join in the fun. Next week is going to be the 9th round of matches out of 11 before the playoffs, making the game results harder to turn around. The teams will have to work hard to climb up the standings, or maintain their top positions.
